Surgical Site Infections

Public Reporting of Patient Safety Indicators is a Ministry of Health and Long term Care (MOHLTC) Program for measuring a variety of items that contribute to safe patient care. Monitoring for infection is one of those things that we do in our hospital.

Research has shown:

  • There are preventive interventions known to impact infection rates in the surgical patient population.

For surgical patient undergoing hip and knee replacement surgery n Ontario the MOHLTC requires acute care hospital to report the rate of timely antibiotic administration prior to the start of the surgery.

Pembroke Regional Hospital(PRH) does not perform orthopedic surgery and is therefore excluded from reporting this indicator

As the MOHLTC continues to develop their patient safety program in the future there may be other procedures that we would qualify for as part of that reporting program.
