Acute Mental Health

The Acute Mental Health Program is a county-wide program offering psychiatric services to the area’s adult population. The program is dedicated to short-term intensive treatment and provides service to voluntary patients with disorders such as major depression, anxiety and schizophrenia.

Admissions to the program are received through the Emergency department, directly, on the referral of a physician or through a county-wide process developed to permit patients from outlying areas to be referred directly to the program preventing the need for a duplicate assessment by the Emergency Physician.

The safety of our Mental Health patients is of utmost concern. We encourage patients to leave all medications prescribed and non-prescribed at home and only bring a current list of your medications to the unit. We also ask that you work with your nurse to leave any personal items, for example, razors, scissors, hair dryers etc. with nursing staff for safe keeping so that we can ensure the safety of all of the patients on the unit.

We are privileged to be able to assist patients in meeting their health care needs. If you have questions, comments or concerns, please contact the Director of Mental Health Services at extension 8002 or 6139.
