The laboratory’s role on the healthcare team is to provide a comprehensive range of tests which will assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Laboratory staff visit the patient areas throughout the hospital to collect specimens. Most test results are available for the doctor within a few hours.

The hospital laboratory is a member of the Eastern Ontario Regional Laboratory Association (EORLA) which is comprised of 18 Laboratories from 16 regional hospitals. The laboratory also works with LifeLabs Medical Laboratory Services to provide convenient community-based laboratory services for patients who get their orders for tests at the doctor’s office. Most of the specimens which are collected at the LifeLabs location on Cecelia Street are sent to the hospital for testing and the results are usually available the same day.
