The Physiotherapists provides outpatient services from Monday to Friday 0800 – 1600 hours. The department is located on the ground level of tower B of the hospital. A variety pf treatment modalities and techniques are utilized to address various patient needs. The therapy staff provides short-term intervention with emphasis on teaching patients exercises and techniques to maintain function that they have gained and prevent further injury.

Outpatients waiting referrals are prioritized according to post-surgical, emergencies and non-emergencies. It is of the utmost importance that post-surgical patients such as total hip or knee replacements receive early therapy to prevent delay in healing and functioning of the affected area. Department staff reviews the list regularly to address and minimize the waiting period.

This program is modeled after the Ottawa Heart Institute cardiac rehabilitation program. It is a 6-month program with exercise sessions twice a week and extensive health education. The exercise is directed by Dr. Li and supervised by a registered nurse and physiotherapist with extensive training in cardiac rehabilitation.

The pulmonary rehabilitation program runs over 12 weeks. A Respiratory Therapist supervises exercise and testing is done before entry and exit from the program.
