Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation is a progressive, dynamic, goal-oriented and time limited process, which enables an individual with impairment to reach his/her optimal mental, physical, cognitive and/or social functional level. Rehabilitation is a collaborative effort of the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team.

INPATIENT REHABILITATION SERVICES

The Pembroke Regional Hospital currently has 22 designated inpatient rehabilitation beds.

Patients are recommended for admission by their family physician and may stay for a few days to a couple of months depending on the need for rehabilitation services.

The inpatient therapy department is located in Tower B on the 1st floor.   Rehabilitation Services include nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, social work and others as needed. Physiatrist Dr. Debbie Timpson is the medical director for the rehabilitation program.

Nursing – Our nurses are specialized in rehabilitation nursing and assist the patient to reach their goals towards maximum independence

Physiotherapy – all of our physiotherapists have training in the treatment of stroke patients and work closely with all members of the team

Occupational Therapy- the Occupational Therapists utilize a variety of equipment and treatment techniques to enable patients towards independence in activities of daily living

Speech Therapy – the speech language pathologist assesses and treats the patient's ability to communicate and also performs assessments for swallowing and feeding

Physicians – all patients are still seen by their family physician and in addition by the physiatrist who directs their rehabilitation care

Rehabilitation assistant- the patient is seen regularly by the RA who carries out programs that were set up by physiotherapist, occupational therapist or speech therapist
