Ben Hokum & Son Celebrates 70 Years With $70,000 Gift For Local Health Care
3/11/2026
A milestone celebration became an opportunity to give back as Ben Hokum & Son Limited marked its 70th anniversary with a remarkable $70,000 donation to the Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation's Together, We Care Campaign.
The gift was announced October 9th during the company's anniversary celebration at its Golden Lake sawmill, where employees, contractors, suppliers, industry partners, family, and friends gathered to recognize seven decades of business and community impact.
Presented by company President Dean Felhaber, spouse Tanya, and their children, the donation reflects the Felhaber family's deep connection to Pembroke Regional Hospital and their commitment to supporting local health care close to home.
"The hospital has been an important part of our family's life for many years," said Dean Felhaber. "All five of our children were born at Pembroke Regional Hospital, and we know firsthand how vital access to quality health care is for families throughout the Upper Ottawa Valley. We're proud to support the Together, We Care Campaign and help ensure the hospital has the equipment and technology needed to provide exceptional care today and in the future."
The $70,000 contribution supports the Foundation's Together, We Care Campaign, a community fundraising effort focused on helping fund priority equipment and technology needs at Pembroke Regional Hospital.
In recognition of the family's generous gift and longstanding support, Pembroke Regional Hospital President and CEO Sabine Mersmann announced that Room 406, where all five of the Felhaber children were born, will be named in honour of Ben Hokum & Son Limited.
"Ben Hokum & Son has been a cornerstone of our community for 70 years, and this extraordinary gift demonstrates the company's ongoing commitment to the people and families who call this region home," said Sabine Mersmann, President and CEO of Pembroke Regional Hospital. "We are incredibly grateful to Dean and Tanya Felhaber and the entire Ben Hokum & Son family for helping strengthen local health care for current and future generations."
Roger Martin, Executive Director of the Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation, said the donation is a meaningful example of corporate leadership and community generosity.
"Celebrating 70 years in business is a tremendous achievement, and choosing to mark that milestone by investing in local health care makes this gift especially meaningful," said Martin. "Support from community-minded organizations like Ben Hokum & Son helps ensure local patients and families have access to the care they need, close to home."
Founded in 1956, Ben Hokum & Son has grown into one of the region's leading forest industry companies while maintaining strong roots in the communities it serves. The company has long been known not only for its business success but also for its support of local organizations, initiatives, and causes throughout the Upper Ottawa Valley.
As the company celebrates seven decades of operation, its anniversary gift will leave a lasting impact on health care in the region, helping advance the Together, We Care Campaign's mission to support exceptional patient care for years to come.
