PRH Receives Over $2.4 Million In Provincial Funding For Infrastructure Upgrades And Repairs

29/9/2025

The Pembroke Regional Hospital will be putting new provincial funding to good use as they repair and renew various aspects of patient-facing infrastructure.

In total, the hospital has received just over $2.4 million in one-time funding for the fiscal year 2025-2026 through Ontario’s Health Infrastructure Renewal Funding (HIRF) and Community Infrastructure Renewal Funding (CIRF), double the amount received in 2024-2025.

“Our hospital is extremely grateful to have received this funding,” said PRH President and CEO Sabine Mersmann. “With four buildings varying in age, this money is essential to helping keep our patients and staff safe while maintaining operations.”

Specifically, the funds will be used for much-needed roof and flooring replacements and HVAC heating, cooling and plumbing upgrades. In addition, work will be done to enhance fire safety throughout the hospital including the planned installation of sprinkler fire suppression systems in areas that are currently unequipped. All of these upgrades reflect the hospital’s ongoing commitment to provide a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

In a release, Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MPP Billy Denault called the investment a welcome boost for the Valley. “Strengthening our local hospitals ensures these vital care hubs can continue delivering the best-in-class services our residents need and deserve.”

While Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health added “Supporting infrastructure upgrades in Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke is another way our government is ensuring people can receive high-quality care, closer to home.”
